Traveling sober doesn’t have to mean traveling alone — these companies make alcohol-free adventures exciting, supportive, and stress-free.
Traveling after getting sober can feel scary. Vacations often come with a cultural script: anything goes, rules don’t apply, indulge as much as you want. But for me, there’s no such thing as “just one drink on the plane” or “only on vacation.” I’m an alcoholic and an addict, and for me, once I start there is no stopping. Recovery has to come first, because without it, I lose everything.
But here’s the truth: I didn’t get sober just to stop living. I got sober so I could live more fully. I still want to explore, to laugh, to taste, to discover the world with curiosity and joy. And while I’ve learned that when I’m spiritually fit I can travel anywhere, I still build in safeguards whenever I can.
One of the best safeguards? Community. Having like-minded travelers around — whether they’re sober themselves or just supportive of a sober lifestyle — makes journeys not only safer, but more fun.
“The opposite of addiction is not sobriety; the opposite of addiction is connection.”
Johann Hari, TED Talk: Everything You Think You Know About Addiction is Wrong
That’s where sober travel companies come in. They create safe, alcohol-free spaces where recovery, adventure, and connection can meet. Below, you’ll find a roundup of some of the best — from cruises to treks to retreats — plus my own take on why each excites me.
💡 Note: I’ve only personally traveled with one of these groups (Fellow-Ship Vacations — and it was incredible). The rest are on my radar, and I’ll update this page with first-hand reviews as I try them out. If you’ve traveled with any of these companies, I’d love to hear about your experience in the comments!
Fellow-Ship Vacations
“We welcome all people in recovery and those that support and celebrate them.”
👉 fellowshipvacations.com
About the Company
Fellow-Ship is a community created to give people in recovery safe, judgment-free, and joy-filled adventures. Their trips are open to everyone — not just those in sobriety — but they’re designed with recovery in mind. Most itineraries are centered around large group cruises, but they also offer land-based trips like safaris. Each experience includes opportunities for 12-step meetings and workshops, so travelers can stay connected while exploring the world.
- Offers both large cruises and smaller group adventures.
- Not aligned with any single recovery program, but programming is rooted in 12-step traditions.
- Welcoming, with a strong LGBTQ+ community (especially gay men), but inclusive of all.
- Itineraries often include pre- and post-cruise hotel stays and curated excursions.

Upcoming Trips
- Rwanda Gorilla Trek 2025 – sold out (~$6,000+)
- 12-Day African Safari 2025 – sold out (~$10,500+)
- 10-Day Turkey Adventure 2025 – sold out (~$3,850+)
- Virgin Caribbean Cruise 2026 – March 14–20 (~$1,583+)
- European River Cruise 2026 – July 21–30 (~$6,400+)
- Amsterdam World Pride Recovery Conference 2026 – July 25–Aug 3 (~$375+ per night)
My Experience
My journeys with Fellow-Ship have been nothing short of life-changing. From the very first planning email, Richard and Michael (the captains) set the tone: organized, thoughtful, and genuinely caring. Every detail was handled smoothly, often before I even realized there could be a problem.
Onboard, the mix of adventure, recovery programming, and community was magical. Meetings and workshops pushed me to grow in the best ways, while excursions and activities brought pure joy. The group itself? Truly miraculous — loving, curious, and endlessly fun.
I’ve been on two voyages with them so far, with two more already booked (including one five-week, two-continent marathon!). Every experience has left me grateful beyond words. If you’re looking for a trip that’s both recovery-friendly and a little bit luxurious, I can’t recommend Fellow-Ship Vacations highly enough.

Choose Life Sober Adventures
“Choose community. Choose adventure. Choose life.”
👉 chooselifeadventures.com
About the Company
Choose Life Sober Adventures is built on the belief that both community and adventure are essential to recovery. Their trips are small, intimate, and led by a wellness facilitator who incorporates yoga, meditation, and daily recovery meetings into the experience. These journeys are designed for both people in recovery and the sober-curious, with an emphasis on meaningful connection and personal growth.
- Small groups of 12–16 travelers.
- Led by a certified wellness facilitator.
- Activities include yoga, meditation, and daily recovery meetings.
- Moderate activity level (accessible for most able-bodied travelers, but may be a challenge for some).
- Designed for both sober and sober-curious participants.
Upcoming Trips
- Machu Picchu (dates TBD) – 7 nights, ~$3,995 (+$795 solo supplement)
- Costa Rica (dates TBD) – 6 nights, ~$3,795 (+$975 solo supplement)
My Take
These trips sound like a perfect blend of natural beauty, history, and community connection. Their philosophy feels very aligned with my own — that meaningful, experiential travel can strengthen recovery and build lifelong bonds.
I’m especially intrigued by the Machu Picchu trip. I visited the site with my family nearly thirty years ago, and I’ve been longing to return as an adult (I actually wrote about that first trip 👉here.). Pairing that breathtaking location with a supportive group and wellness practices makes this offering especially appealing. Costa Rica, with its wild landscapes and vibrant culture, feels like another ideal setting for sober travel. Both trips are high on my wish list.
We Love Lucid
About the Company
We Love Lucid connects like-minded solo travelers for adventure-packed, booze-free experiences. Based in the UK, they focus on active trips that combine outdoor adventure with cultural immersion, minus the hangovers. While they don’t align with any specific recovery program, they do require at least one year of sobriety for their multi-day adventures to help maintain a safe, supportive vibe.
- Solo travel focus, designed to build connections.
- Adventure + culture blend, with physically active itineraries.
- Founded in the UK, with trips primarily in Europe.
- Must have 1+ year of sobriety for multi-day trips.
- No program affiliation, but a clear alcohol-free ethos.
Upcoming Trips
(2025 trips are currently sold out or past)
- Camino de Santiago Fundraiser – 6 nights, ~£1,975; women-only; 100km hike, rustic shared accommodations.
- Beer to Soberton Cycling Challenge – one-day, 120-mile cycling challenge.
My Take
I’m excited by their focus on shorter, more affordable trips, especially in the UK and Spain — two places close to my heart (I studied abroad in both about twenty years ago!). The activity level looks like it would stretch me outside my comfort zone — and honestly, that’s both exciting and a little intimidating.
I love that We Love Lucid offers something different from the cruise-heavy model of many sober travel companies. These trips lean rustic and active, with a strong emphasis on local culture and food — which, as a former chef, is always a huge draw for me.
If you’re curious about what makes me fall in love with a place through food, I actually wrote about my time eating my way through Tokyo 👉 The Top 10 Things I Ate in Tokyo. Different part of the world, but same spirit of tasting your way into connection.

Sober Vacations International (SVI)
About the Company
Founded in 1987, Sober Vacations International (SVI) is one of the longest-running sober travel companies in the world. Their mission: to create safe, alcohol-free environments where recovery travelers can expand their horizons and still feel fully supported. Many participants are members of 12-step programs, but spouses, friends, and sober-curious travelers are welcome too.
SVI offers two types of experiences:
- Sober Vacations – Cruises or resorts that remain open to the public, but with SVI’s group providing fellowship, support, and on-site 12-step meetings.
- Sober Villages – Once a year, SVI completely buys out a resort, removing alcohol entirely and filling the week with recovery-focused programming like workshops, yoga, trivia nights, and even scavenger hunts.
Other details:
- In operation since 1987 (serious staying power).
- Offers roommate matching for solo travelers.
- Known for strong community vibes and structured recovery support.
Upcoming Trips
- French River Cruise – Sept 25–Oct 2, 2025; ~$4,395+
- Sober Village (Dominican Republic) – May 2–9, 2026; ~$2,495+
- Douro River Cruise (Portugal) – March 24–31, 2026; ~$3,359+
My Take
Any company that’s been around for nearly four decades has clearly found a model that works — and that longevity inspires confidence. The prices are in line with similar offerings, and the mix of traditional vacations and immersive “Sober Village” retreats gives travelers options depending on their comfort level.
I especially love the idea of Sober Villages: entire resorts where sobriety isn’t just supported but fully built into the environment. If something like this had been on my radar when I was new in recovery, I think it would have been a game-changer. Now, it sounds like an incredible way to deepen both travel and sobriety in the same week.
For comparison, I’ve also written about how I use community and fellowship to travel sober in less structured settings — like when I returned to Alaska sober for the first time 👉 Anchored in Alaska. Whether through an organized group or a personal circle of support, connection really is the key.
Sober Celebrations
About the Company
Since 2001, Sober Celebrations has been taking travelers around the world with fellowship at the heart of the journey. Their tagline says it best: “The Joy of living is amplified when traveling the world in fellowship.”
They specialize in sober cruises — river, ocean, and expedition — where travelers can explore destinations together while staying connected to recovery. Alcohol may be present in ports and locations they pass, but the trips are structured around fellowship and spiritual fitness, creating a built-in safety net for everyone onboard.
- Fellowship-centered cruises with 12-step meetings, Al-Anon groups, and recovery speakers.
- Six cruises annually, ranging from affordable weekend getaways to high-end expeditions.
- Emphasis on community: 24-hour fellowship stations and group excursions.
Upcoming Trips
- Halloween Gratitude Cruise – Oct 25–Nov 1, 2025; ~$1,583+
- Sober Sisters Weekend (Bahamas) – Jan 16–19, 2026; ~$466+
- Antarctica Expedition Cruise – Feb 12–25, 2026; ~$13,995+
- Seine River Cruise (France) – June 27–July 4, 2026; ~$4,572+
- Australia & New Zealand Cruise – Jan 17–31, 2027; ~$7,374+
- Christmas Markets, Swiss Alps & Rhine Castles – Nov 26–Dec 7, 2027; ~$4,979+

My Take
I love the range of experiences Sober Celebrations offers — from budget-friendly, short cruises (like the Bahamas weekend) to truly once-in-a-lifetime adventures (hello, Antarctica!). It means there’s something here for travelers at every stage of recovery and every budget.
Cruises aren’t always my go-to travel style, but having a built-in sober fellowship onboard completely changes the equation. For someone new to recovery, or just craving the safety net of like-minded travelers, this feels like a wonderful entry point.

Hooked Alcohol-Free Travel
About the Company
Hooked is a newer player in the alcohol-free travel space, founded in 2021. Their philosophy is simple but powerful: travel should be full of connection, wellness, and sensory experiences — without alcohol. They’ve designed a rotating cycle of trips, each offered every two years, that cater to sober and sober-supportive travelers alike.
What makes them unique is their variety of trip types:
- Sober Locals – City-based experiences hosted by local sober guides (NYC, Las Vegas, Toronto, San Diego).
- Cruises – Caribbean and Alaska itineraries.
- Exclusive Trips – Unique themed adventures: Sayulita, Mexico; Germany AF Wine Tour; Iceland; Tennessee; Thailand; Morocco; Tanzania; Australia AF Wine Tour; Spain’s Camino de Santiago.
- Bespoke Itineraries – Custom-designed trips for solo travelers, small groups, or anyone who prefers a tailor-made adventure.
They also emphasize wellness and “full-sensory travel,” reminding guests that sobriety heightens awareness and makes each moment feel richer.
Upcoming Trips
Because Hooked runs a rotating schedule, each trip is offered every other year. Some highlights:
- Germany Alcohol-Free Wine Tour
- Iceland (self-drive adventure)
- Camino de Santiago (Spain)
- Thailand Dry Grad Experience
- Tanzania & Morocco Expeditions
My Take
I’m especially intrigued by Hooked because they’re offering options outside the cruise-dominated sober travel scene. Their city-based “Sober Locals” sound like a great way to dip into alcohol-free group travel without committing to a long-haul adventure.
The AF wine tours blow my mind a little — as someone who once thought wineries were permanently off my list, it feels incredible that the alcohol-free movement is opening doors I thought were closed forever. Their Iceland trip (with a self-drive component) also stands out as something very different, and definitely my kind of quirky challenge.
I will admit, the language on their website feels a little over-the-top for me personally — but the actual trips they’re creating are so unique and thoughtful that I fully expect to try one soon.

Travel Sober
About the Company
In operation since 1988, Travel Sober has been creating opportunities for people in recovery (and their families and friends) to travel the world in safe, alcohol-free environments. Their trips combine adventure with recovery programming, featuring guest speakers and activities designed to deepen both inner and outer journeys.
They offer a wide range of options — from land-based tours to river cruises to ocean voyages — with itineraries at different price points to fit a variety of budgets. Many trips are built around 12-step fellowship, but wellness travelers of all kinds are welcome.
- In business for 35+ years (founded 1988).
- Trips include land, river, and ocean itineraries.
- Activities: recovery speakers, workshops, wellness events.
- Broad pricing options — some lower than competitors.
- Provide lifetime connection opportunities among travelers.
Upcoming Trips
Examples of current offerings include:
- 21-Day Transatlantic Cruise
- Safari in South Africa
- Baja Mexico & Sea of Cortez
- 16-Day Hawaiian Cruise
- Amsterdam River Cruise
- Venice to Athens Cruise
- Caribbean Cruise (roundtrip Orlando)
- Boston to Canada Fall Foliage Cruise
- Tahiti to Hawaii Cruise
My Take
The longevity of Travel Sober is impressive — they’ve been at this for nearly four decades, which suggests they’ve built both strong systems and loyal travelers. Their pricing often looks more affordable than other sober travel companies I’ve researched, which could make them a great entry point for someone new to recovery travel.
Some of their offerings feel a little more traditional or old-school (and I got a kick out of the fact that their contact email is still AOL!). But honestly? As a self-proclaimed old soul and “Chaos Grandma,” that makes me want to give them a try even more.
I’m especially drawn to the South Africa safari and the transatlantic cruise — trips I might never have considered possible early in sobriety. It reminds me a lot of what I wrote about in 👉 Five Years Sober: How Travel Saved My Life and Set Me Free: sobriety hasn’t shrunk my life, it’s made it bigger and more adventurous than I ever dreamed.
Capsule Adventures
About the Company
Capsule Adventures is a newer sober travel company with a fresh approach: rather than focusing on “proving sobriety,” they frame their trips as resets — chances to feel everything more clearly and live in full color. Their philosophy is about presence, connection, and clarity, making their experiences appealing to both sober and sober-curious travelers.
One standout detail: they screen travelers before booking. You’ll submit an application and have a short video interview to ensure group compatibility, which helps maintain safe, positive dynamics on the trip.
- Focus on clarity, connection, and immersive experiences.
- Open to sober and sober-curious, but sobriety during the trip is non-negotiable.
- Application and screening process required (30-minute video interview).
- Emphasis on mindful, intentional travel.
Upcoming Trips
- Machu Picchu – Oct 11–19, 2025 OR Oct 25–Nov 2, 2025; ~$2,399
- Komodo Islands – Coming soon
- Botswana Safari – Coming soon
My Take
I really like that Capsule Adventures screens participants before confirming bookings — it adds a layer of intentionality and safety, especially appealing for solo sober women like me. Their price point is notably lower than some other companies offering similar trips, which makes these adventures more accessible.
Right now, Machu Picchu seems to be their signature trip. Since I’ve written about my own first journey to 👉 Peru, I can’t help but imagine what it would feel like to go back there in sobriety, surrounded by a group of people traveling with the same clarity and purpose.
This company is still small, but their philosophy really resonates with me. I’m excited to see what other adventures they roll out in the coming years.
Bonus Round 1: Flash Pack
About the Company
Flash Pack is a well-known travel company for solo adventurers, specializing in cultural immersion, adventure, and meaningful group connection. While not exclusively a sober travel company, they’ve experimented with alcohol-free itineraries (notably during “Dry January”).
Their trips are tailored through a personalized quiz that matches you with experiences based on your travel style, activity level, budget, and preferences. Though the dedicated alcohol-free category isn’t active right now, it’s a company worth watching — especially for sober or sober-curious solo travelers who want connection without the pressure to drink.
- Primarily focused on solo travelers in their 30s–40s.
- Offered alcohol-free departures in the past (none currently scheduled).
- Trips emphasize culture, adventure, and human connection.
- Uses a “find your trip” quiz to curate experiences.
My Take
I’m curious to see whether Flash Pack expands its alcohol-free options in the future. Even outside the sober-specific trips, their model (solo travelers meeting for shared adventures) already feels like a natural fit for people in recovery who want to connect without alcohol being the centerpiece.
I took their quiz just for fun, and the adventures it suggested looked incredible — the kind of trips I’d jump on whether or not sobriety was part of the marketing. For me, group travel like this provides the same safety net I’ve written about in 👉 How to Travel in Sobriety.
Not officially “sober travel,” but definitely a resource I’d keep on the list.
Bonus Round 2: Contiki
About the Company
Contiki has long been known for running youth-oriented group tours for travelers ages 18–35. Recently, they’ve started to explore the sober-curious travel market, testing the waters with an interest form to design potential alcohol-free itineraries.
While they don’t currently have sober-specific trips available, their willingness to ask younger travelers what they want is worth noting. With over 200 trips worldwide in their broader portfolio, Contiki has the infrastructure to make sober-curious group travel accessible on a large scale if they decide to pursue it.
- Ages 18–35 only.
- Currently seeking input for potential sober-curious itineraries.
- 200+ destinations worldwide in their general offerings.
- No sober-curious trips on the calendar yet.
My Take
I’ll be honest — I don’t qualify for Contiki trips anymore (and I find that mildly insulting). But I love that they’re asking the younger generation what they want, and that sobriety and sober-curiosity are part of that conversation.
Even though this isn’t an option for me personally, it could be huge for 20-somethings starting out in recovery. If I’d had access to something like this at that age, maybe I wouldn’t have felt like sobriety meant giving up on adventure.
For those of us past 35, don’t worry — there are plenty of other amazing companies on this list who’ll gladly take us along for the ride.

Traveling sober doesn’t mean giving up adventure — it means finding new ways to connect, discover, and thrive. Whether you’re looking for the structure of a recovery-centered cruise, the challenge of a sober trek, or the creativity of alcohol-free city adventures, these companies are proof that the world is wide open to us.
This page will stay alive and evolving: I’ll keep adding updates and personal reviews as I experience more of these trips myself. In the meantime, I’d love to hear from you — have you traveled with any of these companies? Did I miss one you love? Drop your thoughts in the comments so we can keep building this resource together.
Adventure is out there, and sobriety doesn’t hold us back — it sets us free to experience it fully. ✨
